Humans are often portrayed as rational beings who prioritize clarity and perfection. In this lecture, however, I offer a different perspective that centers on the idea of humans as unfinished drafts. From this view, a person is a playful, evolving creature. If that is the case, then an essential part of the world for us is the so-called play space, a space for development and growth. This raises further questions: What is the role of play space in the city? Is it even possible within urban environments?

Eik Hermann (b. 1978) is a lecturer on philosophy and practice-based theory at the Estonian Academy of Arts and editor-in-chief of the architecture magazine Ehituskunst. He completed his MA in philosophy at the Estonian Institute of Humanities, Tallinn University in 2005. His current focus lies mainly in the grey areas between the theoretical and practical, material and mental, psychological and political, and pragmatic and poetic.
