Urban festival UIT loves to screen films in places that harmonize with the motion picture in a special way. This is already the sixth year that UIT has compelled Elektriteater’s red movievan out of its garage. Together we have screened films on rooftops and football fields, in hangars and fire stations.
For this year, we have chosen a city-centric film with a 90s vibe - Jim Jarmusch’s Night on Earth (1991). We will be screening the film in an old car repair shops’ yard on Tehase street. A place that, for cars at least, feels like home.
Night on Earth is a charming comedy about five different cities and five different situations taking place in local taxis. The film shows how social connections play an important part of city life but also acts as a kind of time machine to early 90s Helsinki, Rome, Paris, New York and Los Angeles. A thoroughly enjoyable and warm film with enjoyable humour.
